Prof S.S.Prasad

After post graduation from Bihar University. followed by Magister in Artibus in Teaching English as a Second Language (1976) from University of Wales, U.K., he did his Ph. D. (English Literature) 1981 from Patna University, Patna.

He was awarded British Council Scholarship 1975-76 to do M.A. In English as a Second Language at the Department of Linguistics, University College of North Wales, Bangor, U.K. He also got Commonwealth Academic Staff Fellowship (1983-84) awarded by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the U.K. The Association of Commonwealth University, London for Post Doctoral Research at the School of English, University of LEEDS, LEEDS, U.K. University Grant Commission, New Delhi granted an award in 1990 to undertake Post Doctoral Research on "Colonialism and the Novel : The Anglophone Experience."

He has attended several short courses at institutions like Film & Television Institute of India, Pune; Department of Sanskrit; P.U., Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi; Staff Training & Research Institute of DD, IGNOU, New Delhi.

His teaching experience extends over 37 years in Patna University. Besides he was a Professor of English at University of Sana, Republic of Yemen for a brief period in 1991-92. He has remained associated with Training programmes as Resource Person at NCERT, SCERT, IGNOU, DDE (P.U.), Academic Staff College (P.U. & BRABU), KVS and several other educational institutions.

His record of research guidance at Doctoral Level is phenomenal. He has guided successfully about two dozen Research Scholars for the award of Ph.D. degrees in English of Patna University and the areas of research include British Writing, American Literature, African Writing in English, Commonwealth Literature, Indo-Anglian Literature and Linguistics. He was the Head of the P.G. Department of English, Patna University, after remaining Head of the Department of English, Science College for a long period.

He has a large number of publications to his credit including well researched books, poetry, translations and scores of research articles and many more popular writings. He has edited individually or jointly books and magazines in many areas including environment education, school education, literature etc

His interest in socio-cultural activities and organizational work covers a wide spectrum. He was a Founder Member of East & West Educational Society, as well as Chairman 'Drishti' a literacy movement taken up in the villages around Fatuah, Patna. He was Vice-President of Association for the Promotion of Creative Learning, Patna, and also Secretary, Mukhar, Patna, a Language Teaching Organisation for the deaf, dumb and the mentally retarded. Painting, poetry, drama, folk literature and non-formal education are his hobbies, besides of course, reading.
