After a brilliant academic career winning two Gold Medals for Securing First position in First Class from Patna University in both B.A. History Hons and M.A. Examinations, opted for a teaching career in Patna University . Teaching since 1980, first in Patna Women's College and then in the Post Graduate department of History, P.U.

Starting with history her areas of academic and research interests have widened greatly. She was awarded Ph D degree on the thesis on Ancient Indian History. She has taught among other subjects Ancient Indian History, Early Medieval India, History of China & Japan, History of Science & Technology. Excellent teacher with varied areas of interest. Taking classes in PG Diploma Course in Women's Studies, invited as resource person in Orientation courses to Academic Staff College on Gender Empowerment. Taking regular classes in UGC refresher courses in different PG Departments on topics like Population & Gender.

Other areas of studies include Education, Environment , Child, Human Rights etc Have been taking classes at many places as Guest faculty included Administrative Training Institute, BIPARD, SCERT (Patna & Bhubneswar) , Bihar State Judicial Academy etc

The variety shows in her research guidance as well- she has guided two researches successfully in new areas of History like Environmental History and Gender History. Others working under her guidance are exploring areas like Education, Prehistoric Sites, Gender, Warfare all in the context of Ancient India.

She has co-authored one book and edited a number of books and magazines, mostly on education and environment. She has been writing articles on many subjects including Ancient & Modern Indian History, Education including Environment Education, Child & Women Rights etc Some of the articles published in prestigious journals & magazines like Khuda Baksha Library Journal, Seminar etc. Some articles are included in books published by SAGE, Pratham in collaboration with UNESCO, Prativesh, ADRI etc

She has been attending and presenting papers in many national and international seminars organized by NIEPA (in association with EU), IHD (in association with Planning Commission), CARA, Aga Khan Foundation, ADRI, East & West Educational Society, Actionaid India, Prayas JAC etc

Her other Organisational activities are equally varied.
